In lieu of the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, the Georgia Latino Film Alliance and Film Festival fully acknowledge and stand in support of all our SAG-AFTRA friends, members, and actors. “We stand with the union but move forward for our Indies,” said Dr. Jose Marquez, PhD, CEO of GALFA.

GALFA was founded as, and will continue to be, a prominent platform for emerging filmmakers of color. Our mission statement is aligned with and committed to the voices of our storytellers and their artistry. Although we stand in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America in their fight to achieve a fair and equitable contract.

We also believe that independent filmmakers in the United States continue to play an important role in our organization’s mission. Now, more than ever, it is crucial to acknowledge these filmmakers and give them a rightful place in the film economy.

Indeed, this is a challenging period for the industry, but we see it as an opportunity to bring our members to the forefront who have often been overlooked by those in power. The indie community is a resilient and vibrant part of our industry, and we believe they can play a significant role in helping us navigate through this crisis.

Therefore, we are committed to moving forward with the Georgia Latino International Film Festival. We recognize the importance of providing our platform for diverse voices and showcasing the talent and creativity of independent filmmakers. By continuing with the festival, we aim to support and uplift the indie community, contributing to the progress of our industry during these trying times.

Join us for the 2023 Georgia Latino International Film Festival, taking place from September 21st to 24th at Gas South in beautiful Atlanta Georgia. Please be advised that the full itinerary will be released on July 31, 2023, and is subject to change without notice.

En vista de la reciente huelga de SAG-AFTRA, la Alianza de Cine Latino de Georgia y el Festival de Cine reconocen plenamente y brindan su apoyo a todos nuestros amigos, miembros y actores de SAG-AFTRA. “Estamos con el sindicato, pero seguimos adelante por nuestros cineastas independientes”, dijo el Dr. José Márquez, PhD, CEO de GALFA.

GALFA fue fundada como, y seguirá siendo, una plataforma destacada para cineastas emergentes de color. Nuestra declaración de misión está alineada y comprometida con las voces de nuestros narradores y su arte. Aunque nos solidarizamos con SAG-AFTRA y el Sindicato de Escritores de América en su lucha por alcanzar un contrato justo y equitativo.

También creemos que los cineastas independientes en Estados Unidos siguen desempeñando un papel importante en la misión de nuestra organización. Ahora, más que nunca, es crucial reconocer a estos cineastas y darles un lugar legítimo en la economía cinematográfica.

De hecho, este es un período desafiante para la industria, pero lo vemos como una oportunidad para poner a nuestros miembros en primer plano, quienes a menudo han sido pasados por alto por aquellos en el poder. La comunidad independiente es una parte resiliente y vibrante de nuestra industria, y creemos que pueden desempeñar un papel importante en ayudarnos a navegar por esta crisis.
